چکیده

The SETHI sensor from ONERA is an airborne radar equipped with different bands (UHF-VHF, L, X) on a Falcon 20. The UHF-VHF band is fully polarimetric and can operate between 225 MHz up to 460MHz. In August 2009, this system was used in French Guiana for the TROPISAR experiment. Data were acquired from 0◦ incidence angle up to 65◦ incidence angle and a swath of about 6000 m. The antenna pattern being quite large, this configuration induced a secondary reflection of the incident wave with the wing leading to an antenna pattern deformation (in intensity, phase and frequency). This paper explains the calibration procedure that was performed on the data. First the crosstalk is estimated and removed, then, the antenna pattern is compensated.

Improvement of Biomass Estimation in Forest Areas based on Polarimetric Parameters Optimization of SETHI airborne Data using Particle Swarm Optimization Method

Estimation of forest biomass has received much attention in recent decades. Airborne and spaceborne (SAR) have a great potential to quantify biomass and structural diversity because of its penetration capability. Polarizations are important elements in SAR systems due to sensitivity of them to backscattering mechanisms and can be useful to estimate biomass. Full Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture ...

Uhf Foliage Penetration and Scattering Model for Polarimetric and Interferometric Sar Applications

Today, the scientific community and the space organizations are becoming increasingly interested in the use of UHF radar sensors for global observation of forested ecosystems. This interest has challenged the radio science community to develop innovative and improved approaches to problems associated with the spaceborne UHF propagation and scattering of microwaves in forest applications. In thi...

Microphysical retrievals from simultaneous polarimetric and profiling radar observations

The character of precipitation detected at the surface is the final product of many microphysical interactions in the cloud above, the combined effects of which may be characterized by the observed drop size distribution (DSD). This necessitates accurate retrieval of the DSD from remote sensing data, especially radar as it offers large areal coverage, high spatial resolution, and rigorous quali...

Calibration of UHF Partial Discharge Measurement for Power Transformers And a Comparison to the Calibration of Electrical PD Measurement

The reliability of electrical energy networks depends on the quality and reliability of its electrical equipment, e.g. power transformers. Local failures inside their insulation may lead to catastrophic breakdowns and may cause high outage and penalty costs. To prevent these destroying events, power transformers can be tested on partial discharge (PD) activity before commissioning and monitored...

Calibration of polarimetric SAR data subject to Faraday rotation using a Genetic algorithm

Recently, some spaceborne polarimetric synthetic aperture radars, such as TerraSAR X (Xband), RADARSAR-2 (C-band) and PALSAR (L-band), are available to measure a scattering matrix of terrain and polarimetric data analysis techniques are being developed for terrain classification, forest biomass and soil moisture estimations, etc. Thus polarimetric calibration is necessary to obtain the accurate...
